I thought there were only 4 remaining outdoor phone booths in New York City, until I spotted this old booth on Yankee Pier in New York's Buttermilk Channel. There was no public access to the pier from Governors Island, but this hulking old booth cut quite a profile with Red Hook, Brooklyn, and the Verrazano Narrows in the background. Including this booth there are (to the best of my knowledge) five remaining outdoor, freestanding phone booths in NYC. Four of them are on West End Avenue (link), the fifth is shown here. I do not know if the phone in this booth works, but I doubt it. |
