Sprint payphone in Newcomb Hall (student union building/dining hall) - (804)
972-9106.  This is one of those "next generation" phones, with such features
as a lighted LCD display and credit card swipe.  When you call this phone,
it rings very loudly and says on the display "Ringing.  Please answer."

Subject: Charlottesville, VA payphone numbers 

Here are some numbers I gathered from payphones and other free "courtesy
phones" in public locations around Charlottesville, VA and the University of
Virginia.  Obviously, feel free to add these to your list (but please don't
use my name).

Sprint payphone in Tuttle dorm, University of Virginia - (804) 972-9914.
This phone is located in the first-year students' mailroom and rings very
loudly.  Best time to catch someone would be around lunchtime or at 5 p.m.,
when people are waiting in line at the mail window.

"Courtesy phone" in Cauthen dorm, University of Virginia - (804) 982-5930.
Located in the lobby of one of the first-year dorms.  Someone passing
through will usually pick it up after a while.

982-5014.  This phone doesn't ring, but has a flashing red light that notes
incoming calls.  Not a great chance of having someone answer.

Courtesy phone next to the restrooms, 4th floor Clemons library, University
of Virginia - (804) 924-7454.  Call this phone any time, since Clemons is
open 24 hours---if you're looking for a random college student to talk to at
3 a.m., this is the number to dial.

Courtesy phones at Newcomb Hall (student center), University of Virginia:
	3rd floor, across from Student Council office:  (804) 924-6897
	3rd floor, near the Ballroom:  (804) 924-3772.
	Last time I checked, these phones had their ringers turned off.  Worth a
	try, though, especially between 9 and 5, when Newcomb is at its busiest.

Emergency call boxes in the McCormick Road first-year residence area:
	(804) 924-7661 - in front of Bonnycastle dorm
	(804) 924-7636 - behind Echols dorm
	(804) 924-7600 - in quad between Humphreys and Emmet dorms

These are by far the most interesting phones to call at the University of
Virginia.  When your call goes through, you will hear a set of touch tones.
Then, you will be able to hear the sounds of passers-by outside!  If you
speak into your phone, the same passers-by will be able to hear you loud and
clear on the call box speaker.  Best times to call are during class change
times (between :50 and :00 past the hour), when lots of people are walking
by.  These call boxes cut off your call after 6 minutes or so.

		I saw these two employees outside doing 
		nothing pertaining to their task of making 
		sure that the carts are removed from the lot. 

		 One guy was talking to a group of girls in 
		a car while the other just stood against those 
		sidewalk posts watching the crowd go by.  

		I walked by and on into the store.  I found 
		another payphone in the Layaway Dept 
		(804-794-9864) and used my 35cents and called 
		the number outside. 

		 The phone rang and was answered by someone 
		outside.  He said, "Hello. Wal~Mart parking lot." 
		and I said,"Git them carts in or I'm tellin' 
		yer boss, young man."

		He said,"OH! Okay."  He hung up the phone and 
		I went into the bathroom and laughed my ass off 
		quietly for minute in case someone walked in.
