I feel this picture of a random gathering of people tells a story about who lives in this great city. You couldn't find a more representative grouping than this.

People lined up to use a pay phone in Long Island City, Queens, near the 59th Street Bridge, August 14, 2003. Cell phones were mostly useless, and many land lines were out of service during the blackout.
