Payphones Past

Call (425) 347-9966, the Phone Booth in the World’s Biggest Building

Val Vashon, who in the past has reported on the decline of payphones in Seattle and elsewhere in America, returns with this interesting set of photos showing an actively maintained payphone deep within the bowels of the world’s largest building. The Boeing Everett Factory, in Everett, Washington, retains this GTE-branded phone booth in which one finds a Verizon-branded payphone which appears to be maintained by Frontier Communications. Mr. Vashon adds:

Presumably the booth is because it can get kind of loud in a manufacturing plant. The number is 425-347-9966 and it does ring. Marked as a Verizon phone, in a GTE booth, currently managed by Frontier. This one has a real identity crisis! Obviously this is a leftover from the days before all of these well paid machinists and engineers carried mobile phones.
