IRC via LinkNYC? Try irc.blitzed.org.

One of the most fun things I ever did on LinkNYC was connect to IRC (Internet Relay Chat), the old school chatroom where I still login and idle for weeks, per IRC tradition. If you use IRC look for sorabji on efnet and see if I’m around.

Most IRC servers will not let you connect via LinkNYC’s tablet. irc.blitzed.org was an exception. These two images date from last year. Chatting on IRC using LinkNYC’s onscreen keyboard is pretty hunt and peck, or as I came to describe it: punt and heck. All I could do was curse and stop myself from kicking this kiosk while trying to maintain IRC conversation via LinkNYC. This onscreen keyboard does not lend itself to typing full sentences. Just so frustrating. But seeing IRC’s good old /MOTD blast off up the LinkNYC tablet screen made me smile.
