Mapping Payphone Complaints

A few weeks ago I posted a story about my failed attempt to get a non-working payphone fixed. Using NYC’s 311 web site I reported a payphone that had been out of service for years.

Months later that phone has not been fixed, and the incident is now marked as closed. Following up on that story I checked the NYC.gov/data web site again, and it got me thinking: why not map payphone complaints? Who couldn’t use a map showing you where to find non-working public telephones? Something existentially useless about the idea (and the fact that it was stupid-easy to do) inspired me to spend 3 minutes creating that map.
