New Hampshire Phone Booth, and Others

A friend sent me this photo of a phone booth in Randolph, New Hampshire:

The booth is outside a Lowe’s gas station. Erica Avery says “The proprietress told us the phone company no longer gives them a cut of what they take in, but Lowe’s still didn’t want the phone booth removed.”

It seems some folks appreciate old style phone booths enough to keep them around regardless of their income potential.

Until now New Hampshire was one of the few U.S. states not represented in my Payphones of the World Photo Gallery. I considered making a road trip to New Hampshire specifically to go payphone hunting, just to fill in that missing piece of the collection.

I had neglected the photo section of this site for some time. This was not unintentional, as I had anticipated upgrading the software that runs the gallery before resuming activity. Inertia kicked in, though, and in the last months I have focused my energies on other pieces of the payphone puzzle. That inertia was sufficiently encouraged, I think, by the fact that the software works just fine, so why upgrade? Alas, the time for upgrades may be nigh, but I may stay old school simply because I have no issues with the ancient content management systems used to produce this site.

Things like this make me want to travel again, and to go out payphone hunting.
