This abandoned payphone was owned by the Tele Tech (a.k.a. Teletech) company. Teletech is now defunct.Originally based in Connecticut the company moved to 9th Street in Astoria, Queens. This phone was located near the Hotel Barbour on West 36th Street in Manhattan. Tele Tech made news in November, 2000, when the New York Times reported that the company had been fined $20,000 for writing bad checks and for ignoring customer complaints. Blurry Picture Makes Its Point Clear
The picture is blurry but the point is clear. Some kids just want to talk on the payphone. Too bad for this kid he picked up another abandoned Verizon payphone. This phone, near the heavily-trafficked Wollman Rink in Central Park, seems like it might attract paying customers... if it only worked.
