This abandoned payphone was owned by the Tele Tech (a.k.a. Teletech) company. Teletech is now defunct.Originally based in Connecticut the company moved to 9th Street in Astoria, Queens. This phone was located near the Hotel Barbour on West 36th Street in Manhattan. Tele Tech made news in November, 2000, when the New York Times reported that the company had been fined $20,000 for writing bad checks and for ignoring customer complaints.
