Someone had jammed a wad of paper into this payphone's coin slot, so I couldn't call my cell phone to get its number via caller ID. So I dialed the MCI toll free number that tells you the number from which you are calling. It said 718-520-9771, but that number may actually belong to one of these three phones at Calyer Street & Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I am not sure where the mistake is, or if the Greenpoint phone # was reassigned to this phone. This looks like a pretty long-standing payphone, though (it still has a Verizon placard within the enclosure) so it doesn't seem likely that this phone would have been assigned a new number at any recent time. Caller ID information can be spoofed but I thought the MCI caller ID number was supposed to be foolproof.
