Abandoned Payphone, 31st Avenue and 60th Street in Queens
I believe this abandoned, desecrated payphone at 31st Avenue and 60th Street in Queens used to be owned by a company named Underdog Payphones, though I did not seem to find any signage to that effect today. It’s possible the graffiti somehow obscured it, or the words faded, but I have a reasonably clear memory of having identified this phone in the past as formerly owned and left to rot by Underdog. That company left a number of payphones behind in and around this part of Queens, including three outside of the Best Buy on 35th Avenue, but those finally got removed. This one just keeps on keeping on, though someone pruned the handset and cord some time in the last couple of years. I see something like this and find it mildly amazing that an enterprising crook has not seen fit to haul this thing off and torch it to get at however much money might be hiding inside.
