UK Phone Box, Photo by Paul Voller
Paul Voller, who wrote to Payphone News in April to share the story of an Abandoned Phone Box in Aldershot, Hampshire, England, writes again with more encouraging news of an actual working phone box:
“I’ve just returned from a summer holiday down to the south west of England at a place called Ilfracombe in the county of Devon. This is a working fishing port which offers a lovely rugged coastline and Devon cream teas. No mobile reception, though, so we enjoyed a decent holiday.
“Anyway, while I was there I happened across this phone box stood upright on the breakwater in the harbour entrance. I thought it abandoned when I first saw it but noticed that the coin box was still attached. I placed a call from it and in spite of the smell of the sea inside it, the phone worked perfectly.
“Attached are a couple of pictures putting it in perspective. All BT payphones accept incoming calls.”
