CityBridge, the confusing consotrium of advertising, media, and technology companies that has blessed the streets of New York City with LinkNYC, has been publishing a dataset said to show which kiosks are working and which ones are not. I’ve sliced and diced this dataset, mapped it, and have been staring at it for weeks now. I’ve arrived at the conclusion that the dataset has some connection to reality, but I can’t quite tell what that connection is. This is my not-yet-linked-to table showing how many kiosks are said to be dysfunctional in one form or other. As of 7pm on January 30, 2019, this is easily the most kiosks where one feature or another is reported as being down since I started monitoring it in November. Maybe those poor kiosks can’t handle the cold?
