This one sent me to Hollis, where I found a long-dead Verizon phone moldering away in a somewhat odd spot. See more of my payphone strambles at the YouTube playlist: Payphones of New York City and New Jersey.
An ad which included the “Talk To Me” project showed up on my phone while out doing this stuff.
It seems someone is once again taking care of New York’s last-working PTS payphones. Flushing Main Street works again. It did not work the previous week. The 14th Street payphone/TTY, not seen in this video, has also been restored after I stupidly jammed it with dimes.
I attempted a couple of calls over the Baxter Street Talk To Me phone but didn’t get much. I really had something to talk about, too, as the last half of this video demonstrates: An encounter with an old friend who is now homeless, while zipping around Cyclomedia, a seemingly unknown alternative to Streetview which is, in many ways, superior to the far more bloated alternatives.
