From Camp Rudder on the Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle comes this ghostly row of 7 phone booths, with more of them possibly outside of the frame. There is no indication from Instagram photographer Tanja Kropf as to whether or not the payphones work but she suggests in her hashtags that there is limited or non-existent cell phone coverage at the camp, making working public telephones a necessity. A bit of searching on the subject reveals that cell signal on military bases has historically been pretty sketchy. You just never know where you might find these things.

  1. This is at 6th Ranger Training Brigade (Florida Phase of Ranger School) I actually used those phone booths.Students aren’t allowed to have cell phones, only cash.At the end of every phase you can use your cash to call home at the phone booths.Nothing special or weird about this. Most bases are in the middle of nowhere, thats why theres no service.
