I did not intend to follow thorough on this, but I changed my mind. If it fills a void my time will have been well spent. At worst I wasted my time again. I submitted a complaint to the MTA, reminding them that despite the presence of a sign claiming there is an NYCWELL 24 hour hotline phone on the RFK/Triborough Bridge, no such phone exists. In fact no emergency telephones whatsoever seem to exist on the span of the RFK connecting Queens to Randalls Island and the Bronx.
I also upped the ante, if you will, by contacting NYCWELL, the city agency identified in the sign on the RFK Bridge. I decided to contact them through their Facebook page, since all forms of contact found on their website would appear to connect me to grief counselors and such. That’s a problem with this pursuit. Anyone I contact will likely assume I need this phone when really, I am fine.
Here is what I sent to the city via their Facebook page. This is similar to what I sent the MTA through their contact form. Whoops on the “there is 24 hour”, should be an “a” in there:
Hey folks. A sign on the RFK/Triborough Bridge says “LIFE IS WORTH LIVING” and then promises there is 24 hour NYCWELL phone hotline ahead. No such phone exists. In fact I don’t think any kind of emergency telephone exists anywhere on the RFK. I am referring to the span connecting Queens to Randalls Island and the Bronx. I invite you to visit the span in person to see for yourself that no phones exist, or else they are very well hidden. This has been an issue for years now.
I thought nothing of it at first but after sending this I realized that I used my shadow Facebook account, with zero friends. I set up that account for the purpose of updating the Payphone Project Facebook page while my other account was deactivated. My other Facebook account has maxed out at 5,000 friends. Will an inquiry such as mine, coming from an account with zero friends, be deemed not credible, or not possessed of enough potential social media influence to merit a serious or thoughtful response? We shall see.
