These phone booths on 42nd Street appear to be near 5th Avenue, across the street from the New York Public Library. There is no evidence of them in this picture but 7 years earlier, in 1978, the sidewalk across the street was the site of another row of phone booths. One of those booths was central to a memorable incident involving New York City phone booths: The kidnap of Calvin Klein’s 11-year old daughter. Read more about that story here.
