Keosauqua, Iowa
Keosauqua, Iowa (319) 293-9983 - Payphone at the corner of First & Main in Keosauqua, Iowa. Keosauqua is located in southeastern Iowa and is the Van Buren county seat. Among our more notable claims to fame are the oldest courthouse in the state and the site of the first legal hanging (capital punishment is simply a part of that history in Iowa these days). About fifty miles down the Des Moines river from here is Keokuk, Iowa, and the confluence of the Des Moines and Mississippi rivers. As you can see, the payphone is right next to a pharmacy and just down the street from local restaraunts Riverbend Steakhouse and the Lousiana Purchase (on First St.). Within two blocks of this there are three taverns. The proximity of the drug store, the restaraunts, and the bars should make the chances of someone answering the phone better than average on any given day. The number is (319) 293-9983. Inverness, California (Remote Payphone)
Inverness, CA (Remote payphone) - Although in an extremely different environment, this could be a worthy successor to the Mojave Phone Booth: the payphone in the attached photo at the Tomales Point Trailhead at the Pierce Ranch Tule Elk Preserve in the Point Reyes National Seashore. It is 12 miles north of the village of Inverness (type in "Pierce Point" as a location in Inverness, CA, just to see how far out it is). As shown on the phone, the specifics are: 1 Pierce Point Road Inverness, CA (415) 669-9997 If you were to call late morning - midday on a weekend you would likely get an answer from hikers queing up at the trailhead or perhaps even an NPS docent who would gladly describe the resident Tule elk herd (the bulls of which are the size of a small pickup truck and about as fast). There's also cougar and steep towering seaside cliffs down to the Pacific Ocean area where great whites spawn nearby. Nature rages here! Enjoy... Photo and comments by Dr. G

NYC Phone Booth
Yankee Pier, Buttermilk Channel, Governors Island, NYC - I thought there were only 4 remaining outdoor phone booths in New York City, until I spotted this old booth on Yankee Pier in New York's Buttermilk Channel. There was no public access to the pier from Governors Island, but this hulking old booth cut quite a profile with Red Hook, Brooklyn, and the Verrazano Narrows in the background. Including this booth there are (to the best of my knowledge) five remaining outdoor, freestanding phone booths in NYC. Four of them are on West End Avenue (link), the fifth is shown here. I do not know if the phone in this booth works, but I doubt it.
