Inverness, CA (Remote payphone) - Although in an extremely different environment, this could be a worthy successor to the Mojave Phone Booth: the payphone in the attached photo at the Tomales Point Trailhead at the Pierce Ranch Tule Elk Preserve in the Point Reyes National Seashore. It is 12 miles north of the village of Inverness (type in "Pierce Point" as a location in Inverness, CA, just to see how far out it is). As shown on the phone, the specifics are: 1 Pierce Point Road Inverness, CA (415) 669-9997 If you were to call late morning - midday on a weekend you would likely get an answer from hikers queing up at the trailhead or perhaps even an NPS docent who would gladly describe the resident Tule elk herd (the bulls of which are the size of a small pickup truck and about as fast). There's also cougar and steep towering seaside cliffs down to the Pacific Ocean area where great whites spawn nearby. Nature rages here! Enjoy... Photo and comments by Dr. G

Bubbles Laundromat
Laundromat - It was a bad night for laundry. Everything smelled funny and all the carts had at least one bad wheel. A guy asked me if I had change for a 20 and I said no (because I didn't) so he put the whole thing into the change machine and it gave him some quarters and then said WAIT and then said EMPTY. I went to get some of my wash out and found that I'd forgotten to start one of the washers. There goes another half-hour, I thought. Then I thought I got ten free dryer minutes for the towels, but then I redid my math and found that I hadn't. It looks a lot warmer inside than it really is (the light also is not quite so green). If you look carefully, you can see my laundry basket on the bench just to the left of the double doors, sticking out. The laundromat is called either "Mrs. Bubbles" or "Mr. & Mrs. Bubbles," depending on whether you're looking at the inside sign, or the yellow pages (under "Laundries - Self-Service"). The laundromat is open from 5 in the morning till 12 at night. Last load at 11. The laundromat owner's number is 650-343-9087. Someone really ought to report the cart problem.
