An interesting note regarding the structure in which the phone hangs: there are many of these little 'information kiosks' throughout the state of Vermont. Many become places for nearby towns to post their news. They're billboards of a sort, and I believe this one was improperly constructed, as they usually read "Vermont Information" not "Information Vermont" as this one states. Also, the word information clearly does not fit the structure. In the background, you can see St Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church, which stands at the highest point on the Newport peninsula, a recognizable beacon to boat travelers for over a century. Also visible in the water on the opposite shore, appearing just above the willow tree in the picture, is the Newport City Dock and Woof on the Wharf where the previous telephone submission was photographed.
