Portis, Kansas - Portis, KS, in front of the City Office, with the BugWing in the background. I had a really interesting encounter in this little place. As I got ready to leave I looked in the rear view mirror of the BugWing and saw what turned out to be a 1931 Chevy with a big round flashing red antique police light. A guy rolled it out of an old abandoned gas station, put on a conductor's hat, and "pulled me over." He said he was the "self-appointed constable" of the town, but also said his grandfather, years ago, had been the actual constable there. I also learned he IS the sanitation department there and picks up trash in his El Camino, but it takes two runs for him to get the trash for the whole town.
