I should should catch up on posting to this website the payphone videos I’ve uploaded my YouTube channel of payphones, piano music, and whatever’s clever. I’ve been a lot more active there versus here.

I’ve been out and around hunting down what’s left of the payphones in the five boroughs of New York, as well as some New Jersey cities where I either know there to have been phones in the past or where I’ve never been before.

This week sent me to Orange, NJ, where I likely would have found more than these specimens had I headed east instead of west. I’ll be back.

I would likely have found more phones had I gone toward East Orange, instead of the more newly-developed West Orange. Next time.

I found one NewTel on Main Street and two long-abandoned Verizon rigs, one at the NJT station and another outside the abandoned Orange Commons. Orange, NJ, had no PTS presence that I could detect.

3:20 – No sooner do I start saying I don’t know what awaits when a dead Verizon rig appears at the NJT Orange station.

6:22 – I can spot a payphone from far, far away. What a mad, useful, enviable skill, right? This was a gutted out fortress style payphone, the type which would have been impossible to bust open with a cannon.

9:05 – On to Main Street, where I found one NewTel phone smashed and nearly decimated but still standing.

12:30 Orange has, or rather had, functional emergency call boxes of a different style than New York. They’ve been abandoned.

13:12 – Main Street and Park Street. Do you see what I see? The number shown on this abandoned standalone Verizon phone is 973-673-9771. That number does, in fact, appear on my website but at the old 201 area code, and at a different location.

The rest of this video is just some sights and sounds around Orange. I liked the vibe of this town, and plan to revisit and head east next time, instead of west. I found the neat Free Library on Main Street, and wandered about its stacks for a little bit. Nice space, with a huge stained glass giving this little library a majestically ecclesiastical feel.

19:30 – NJT Views to Hudson Yards and the Empire State Building from behind the bushes of New Jersey. Then some beautiful puffy clouds over the NJ landscape. Only about a ½ hour trip from NY Penn to Orange, NJ
