For as few listings as I have in the archive of Harvey, Florida Payphone locations I thought I’d try calling them, first to see if any survive and also to see if the one in Debbie’s photo happens to be one of them. No joy. All the phones listed have been taken out of service.
I’m going to be payphone hunting in Florida myself next week, but further down the peninsula in the Tampa/St. Pete area, where I grew up. I remember where countless payphones used to be. I do not expect to find any significant quantity this time around but it should be a fun pursuit however it goes. I won’t have enough time to do a full “then and now” survey but I should be able to check in on a few of the sites of where payphones used to be by comparing against my set of Tampa, Florida, payphone pictures.
