New York Public Library, wood phone booths. July, 2009
New York Public Library, wood phone booths. July, 2009 - It has been ten years since I last photographed this pair of wood phone booths at the main branch of Manhattan's New York Public Library (see the earlier photo here). Not much seems to have changed except that the phone books are gone. Another 1999 phone booth photo from the New York Public Library can be seen here.

NYC Phone Booth
Yankee Pier, Buttermilk Channel, Governors Island, NYC - I thought there were only 4 remaining outdoor phone booths in New York City, until I spotted this old booth on Yankee Pier in New York's Buttermilk Channel. There was no public access to the pier from Governors Island, but this hulking old booth cut quite a profile with Red Hook, Brooklyn, and the Verrazano Narrows in the background. Including this booth there are (to the best of my knowledge) five remaining outdoor, freestanding phone booths in NYC. Four of them are on West End Avenue (link), the fifth is shown here. I do not know if the phone in this booth works, but I doubt it.

Temple Square
Temple Square - (801) 532-8378, 532-0071 These phones are right outside Temple Square. This is the most popular landmark in the state. The first weekend in April and October the LDS church holds General Conference here and tons of people sleep through the night to get in near these gates. During the conference are also some lunatic demonstrators trying to denounce the church for one reason or another. April 2-4, 1999, would be an interesting time to try calling these. Photo by GANKS
