(212) 223-8646 was originally listed on the Payphone Project, appearing to be at 370 Jay Street in Brooklyn and not where it was actually located: in the Lexington Avenue Subway Station in Manhattan. - (212) 599-9801. Titan Payphone @ 45th St. & 1st Ave., Across From the United Nations
I wish I had posted this payphone number and location a long time ago. Evidently this Titan payphone across the street from the United Nations was used by a runaway to call her mother, who posted here looking for information about the payphone's exact location. (212) 564-4063. GTL Global Tel Link Payphone.
This GTL (Global Tel* Link) payphone is near the 33rd Street PATH Station and the Manhattan Mall. I have not seen many GTL payphones in New York. The placard says you can dial 1-877-GTL4LESS from any phone for discount collect calls. I hate it when a phone number that is spelled out like that has 8 characters. The real phone number would be 1-877-GTL4LES, since the last S is ignored. Leave off the last S for what? Shambala? GTL 4 Les Paul? This phone also has an unusual shortcut: Dial *21 for police emergencies.

This astonishing quantity of public pay telephones occupies a prime chunk of real estate at New York City's Penn Station. It gleams like a beacon from the past when central transit hubs like this had abundant public telephones for the harried traveler who needed to reach someone upon arriving in or departing from New York. This room of payphones almost looks like some kind of museum but it is, in fact, supposed to be a functioning suite of payphones for the public to use. It is not a payphone museum (yet). This room is a payphone ghetto, a telephonic slum, a twilight zone for communications. Maybe some day it will be declared a museum but for now it's just another example of false hope for anyone whose only option for making a phone call is a public pay telephone. - Non-Working Penn Station Payphones
None of these Penn Station payphones worked when I tried them in late June, 2012. The numbers shown on the phones are: (212) 239-4038, (212) 239-8153, (212) 239-83?? (probably -8368), (212) 239-1242, (212) 239-4407, (212) 239-4688, and (212) 239-1158. Each number links to the Payphone Project page at which these numbers were originally listed. These payphones are all owned by Pacific Telemanagement Services (PCS). If any of these payphones worked they would probably not cause ordinary caller ID to display any of the above-listed phone numbers. The number shown would probably be (702) 992-9550. - Penn Station Payphone Carousel

This looks like an image from an earlier generation. The harried businessman traveling through New York rushes to a payphone at a busy transit hub and consults his notes, looking for a phone number. Unfortunately the year is 2012, and this man is out of luck. He is trying to find a working payphone at New York City's Penn Station.

Just Give Me a Phone That Lets Me Make a Telephone Call
Some people complain when their Galaxy Note is bigger than their face. Others complain when their smartphone outsmarts them. Others are happy to use any phone that works, even an uncomfortable payphone like this that just works even if it has no cover on the earpiece.- Grand Central Station

No More Working Verizon Payphones at Times Square Subway Station
I felt bad for this guy. In the Times Square subway station he was trying to find a working public telephone. The first phone ate his money. The second one had no dial tone. He approached an NYPD police officer to ask where he could find a working payphone. The police officer responded by saying "There's a couple over there". The man went "over there" and found these 2 payphones. Do you see those rectangles surrounding the payphones he is attempting to use? Those rectangles represent Verizon payphones that have been removed. This man tried to use a public telephone but had no luck. Neither the payphone here or the one to the right worked. Thanks, Verizon!
A Family Affair
This Times Square payphone call looked like a family affair. The phone was passed among all, to speak to who we don't need to know. It is nice to see that a family from places far away was able to communicate over one of the very few working public telephones in Times Square.- Non-working Verizon Payphones.
